Movie time!!!!

How exciting! I love working with movies because there's usually so much language and culture to learn from them. As you've seen this morning, our movie this year is The Mirror Has Two Faces. I hope you enjoy working with it!!
Two assignments for you:
1. What words or expressions did you learn in today's class?

2- Rose is about to cancell her date. What would you tell her if you were her friend?

  Deadline: Wednesday 1

  1. Hello everyone! I'm so excited about the movie!! I love them! I know that I will learn lot of new vocabulary and expressions, which are mostly used for Americans! The new ones that I've learned last class where "WIND UP" and "I'm sort of with.."
If I where her friend I would tell her:
"It's not fair! This is the third time you cancelled me! I'm not going to invite you anymore, I'm getting tired. The next time, I will not make a reservation, and I will take you to Subway. Anyway, hope you get well, and see you soon."

  2. Hello!!! I've learned some new expressions that are really interesting to put into practice. For example: black listed, dumped, wind up, come up and be sort of with.
If I were Rose's friend I would tell her:
"You always come up with an excuse! Please don't be so hard with me and give an opportunity. We can have a great time together!!"

  3. Hi everybody!!!! I've learned lots of expressions in class, such as: To be blacklisted in a place, to clog somebody's pores, to get sidetracked, to face sth, go get a drink, go for a bite to eat, to dump someone, show up and wind up.
If I were Rose's friend I woul tell her: "If I were you, I'd rather go out with me, your best friend, than with Barry if yu don't feel comfortable! We can go out for a drink, we can have fun and a great time together!!! you're too young to spend your life indoors, my dear!!!!"

  4. Hi people! how are u doing? I go along with my mates, I've learned lots of expressions which we can find them watching films! what's more, we have just seen ten minutes of the film and we have lots of expressions such as, to be blacklisted, wind up, to face sth, to go for a biteto eat and to be sort of.
Concerning the second question, If I were Rose's friend I'd tell her to be sincere with him and tell him the truth 'cause if she were the one to be invited and then the boy calls her to call off the meeting, she would feel bad, and even if the same happens three or more times. we cannot be with someone if we don't really want at all!.

  5. What's up? I like learning new vocabulary from movies, it's so much meaninful when it comes to remember it!! As I learn new phrases or expressions in context, I never forget them!
The ones that I picked up are:
    "I'm gonna be blacklisted",
"Grab a bite or a bite to eat",
    "to dump sb",
    "what for?",
    "to face sth",
    "to show up",
    "wind up"
"to be kind of/sort of with"

If I were Rose's friend I would tell her: "You've put our date off thrice so far! Wht's the matter, Rose? I mean, If you really wanna go out with me, you should stop making up excuses. You don't even know me. Let's give it a try!!! TTYL!
Don't judge a book by its cover..."

  6. Hiii! how are you guys? well, as everybody said, I've learned new expressions from the movie. For example: wind up, grab a bite, let's face it, to sidetrack. I also learned new things about New York that I didn't know.
I love watching movies because it's an interesting and useful way of learning a language.

If I were her friend I would say: "Why don't you tell Barry that you are not interested in him? You should end up that "relationship", because he is wasting his time. If you were him, you wouldn't like to be in that situation. Think about it"

  8. Hi!!! As I`ve just read it, we`re enthusiastic about learning new languaje from this movie. I think it`s an amazing way of acquiring informal expressions. I`m also interesting in the movie, and I want to know more about it!! Some of the expressions I learned are: to show up, to grab a beat/a beat to eat, to wind up, to be sort of with, to dump sb.

If I were Rose`s friend, I would say that it`s not fair to refuse the invitation so many times, because she wouldn`t like to be in her friend`s place. If she really wants to watch tv instead of going out, she should tell him. Besides, I would advise her to give it a try and reach an agreement to meet him and have dinner. May be, she would enjoy spending time with him.

  9. Hi everybody! I know I may sound quite repetitive, but it is evident that we all loved the movie!

Well, I have learnt many words on Wednesday, such as:
wind up,coming up, show up/turn up,to be sort of with sb and dump. (quite a lot, for just having seen the beginning of the movie!)

If I were Rose's friend I would advise her not to play with the guy's feelings and to stop making up excuses all the time so as not to go out with him. It would be better for both if she expresses her real feelings about him. If she does so,she would be able to do what she wants, and he could maybe invite someone else really interested in him. I'm sure Rose wouldn't like to be in the same situation like that poor man.

  10. Hi everybody!!!!
The movie is quite exciting, can't wait to watch it till the end :)
Well, the expressions I've learnt are:
    "to be blacklisted"
    "to dump sb"
    "Grab a bite"
    "wind up"
"to be kind of/sort of with"
and if I were Rose's friend, I would try to find out the reasons why she doesn't want to go on a date with me. At least, I would like her to be honest and tell me the truth if she really doesn't like me!

  11. Hi people! As you've said there is a lot to learn from movies, especially vocabulary! Last class I've learnt some new expressions, like "wind up" "to be blacklisted" and "let's face it".
And if I were Rose's friend, I would tell her to stop cancelling her dates with him, and to give him a chance. You never know if you are letting the love of your life pass by! Just give it a try.

  12. Hi everyone!
These are the expressions that I´ve learnt from the movie:
"To be blacklisted", "to be dizzy", "to have alcohol on an empty stomach", "to grab a bite", "wind up", "To dump somebody", "to cheat on someone"
If I were Rose´s friend I would tell her: "Why don´t you tell Barry the truth? What are you playing at?? He is a nice person but if you aren´t interested in him, you should tell him. Maybe you can try to be only friends.

  13. Hy everybody!. I really enjoyed the activity of watching a movie! I learned a lot of words and expressions.

    Some of them are:

    Blacklist.
    The auditorium is PACKED.
    Dizzy
To have alcohol ON an empty stomach
    Show up (appear)
To grab a bite. (to have sth to eat)
    She uses him.
    I have feelings FOR you
    I care FOR you

    I´ve sort of with
    I´ve dumped you.
    To throw away.

If I were Rose`s friend,I would tell her to be honest with Barry. If she doesn't want to see him, she should tell him the truth, in order not to hurt his feelings.

  14. Good job guys!! I'm glad you seem to like watching movies. I am sure we'll enjoy our sessions then!
You have absorved many expressions! Way to go!
I also like the fact that you gave the word "friend" two different identities: Barry or Rose's any other friends.

  15. Hi guys!I´m actually writing today because my computer made a mistake three days ago when I answered to this task.Anyway,I have to do it again but it´s nice to read all your comments once more and to see how fruitful this activity is for us.
I really love movies but I´ve never learned so much as we did it the day we saw the film. It´s amazing to discover new expressions but it´s also important to put them into practice. Now,here are the words that I learned:
    *TO GRAB A BIT
    *TO WIND UP
    *TO DUMP SME
    *TO SHOW UP
    *TO COME UP
    *TO HAVE FEELINGS FOR SME
    *TO CARE ABOUT SME
Answering to the task,I would say:"Rose, why are you so mean? This man has feelings for you and it´s simply not fair for him to wait for somebody who is so selfish. Make up your mind and try to put yourself in his shoes."
Nice comments guys!!Hope to see you on Monday.

  16. Hi guys! I´m a little late for this task because I had a router problem at home and so I couldn´t access the Internet. I first did the EDI task and then I realized I hadn´t answered this one yet. I feel that if I were her friend, I would tell her to tell the truth to Barry. The thing is that she doesn´t seem to be interested in dating him at all. She prefers to stay at home and watch a baseball match!!! In other words, if I would tell her not to procrastinate telling Barry what she really feels (or doesn´t feel) for him because this is the third time in the same month that she cancels the date. She needs to consider Barry´s feelings because he has the right to know the truth.
